At 91AV, we believe estate planning should be simple, accessible, and always aligned with your needs.
With the help of our team of estate lawyers, we regularly audit and enhance our estate planning documents to reflect evolving legal standards and to include better protections for you, your loved ones, and your assets.
These updates aren’t just about improving documents—they’re about giving you the peace of mind that comes from knowing your wishes will be respected and your family protected.
In 2025, we’ve focused on three key areas for updates:
1. Protecting RESPs for children
We’ve added a clause specifically for Registered Education Savings Plans (RESPs), ensuring that funds you’ve set aside for education remain secure and are used as intended if you pass away. If you created your 91AV will before September 1, 2024, you’ll need to download your documents again for this clause to take effect. It’s always free to update and download your 91AV documents as many times as you like.

2. Including digital assets
All 91AV wills now include a digital assets clause, giving your executor the authority to manage your online presence, from social media accounts to cryptocurrency holdings. If you created your 91AV will before September 1, 2024, you’ll need to download your documents again for this clause to take effect. It’s always free to update and download your 91AV documents as many times as you like.
3. Clarifying charitable contributions
We’ve refined our charitable gift provisions to specify how organizations can accept donations and what happens if a chosen charity ceases operations. These updates ensure your legacy gifts are handled according to your wishes.
4. Flexible options for financial power of attorney
Now you can decide whether you want your financial power of attorney document to come into effect immediately after it’s executed - for example to allow someone to pay your bills while you’re on a trip - or only if you become incapacitated.
To take advantage of this flexibility, make sure your 91AV plan includes power of attorney documents. 91AV power of attorney documents are available in Ontario, British Columbia, Manitoba, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Nova Scotia.

Overall language updates for clarity and precision
In addition to these new clauses, we’ve refined the language across other key sections, including beneficiaries, to make your will easier to understand and even more tailored to your unique situation.
